On the way together …
Since its foundation as a parish, St Columbanus Ballyholme has creatively blended worship, pastoral care and outreach, touching many lives for God along the way.
With a view to taking the best of the past into the future, the parish undertook a multi–faceted consultation exercise early in 2009. The objective was to garner opinion on the future growth and development of the Parish with a view to setting aims for the run up to 2015, the 1400th anniversary of the death of St Columbanus. A range of fundamental questions were discussed in a variety of forums and many opinions were offered. This led to a Parish Vision Statement, subsequently adopted by the Select Vestry.
Under Christ our three Parish aims for 2010–2015 are
To encourage more people to grow into the life and worship of our Church
To seek new ways to pass on the blessings we have received to others at home and abroad.
To work together with the other churches in Ballyholme to serve our local community.
The Vestry affirms these goals as obedient to the twin commandments of Jesus to:
Love God with all your heart and soul and mind and love your neighbour as yourself. (Mark 12:13); and to
Go and make disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19)
Please, come and work with us towards these goals, and remember them in your prayers.
St. Columbanus writes:–
Then let us, who are on the way, hasten home; for our whole life is like the journey of a single day. Our first duty is to love nothing here; but let us place our affections above, our desires above, our wisdom above, and above let us seek our home; for the fatherland is there where our Father is. Thus we have no home on earth, since our Father is in heaven. Sermon VIII
